Everything you need to know about GetSpeedi and internet speed testing
How do I test my internet speed?
To test your internet speed, download and install GetSpeedi on your Windows device. Once installed, open the app and click the Start Speed Test button. The test will automatically measure your download speed, upload speed, and ping. The entire test typically takes less than 30 seconds.
Do I need to download anything?
Yes. GetSpeedi requires a quick download and installation on a device running Windows 10 or Windows 11. After installing the app, you can easily run speed tests anytime directly from the application.
Is GetSpeedi free to use?
Yes. GetSpeedi is completely free to use. You can run internet speed tests at any time to measure your download speed, upload speed, and ping.
My test results vary each time. Why?
Speed test results can fluctuate due to network congestion, background downloads, other devices on your network, server selection, and your ISP's routing. For the most accurate assessment, run multiple tests at different times of day, close unnecessary applications, and test with a wired connection when possible. GetSpeedi automatically accounts for normal variance in its measurements.
How can I improve my internet speed?
To improve your speed: 1) Move closer to your router or use Ethernet cable, 2) Restart your modem and router, 3) Update your router firmware, 4) Reduce the number of connected devices, 5) Use a modern router with dual-band support, 6) Change Wi-Fi channel to reduce interference, 7) Contact your ISP if speeds are consistently below your plan's advertised rate.
Should I test on Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
Test on Ethernet (wired connection) to measure your true internet speed without Wi-Fi interference. If your Ethernet speeds match your plan but Wi-Fi speeds are slower, the issue is your wireless network, not your internet connection. Testing both helps identify whether problems are with your ISP, your router, or your Wi-Fi setup.
What data does GetSpeedi collect?
GetSpeedi collects only the minimal data needed for speed testing: your IP address (for server selection), browser type, and test results. We do NOT track your browsing history, personal information, or internet activity. All data is anonymized and used solely for improving our service. You can review our complete privacy policy for full details.
What is a good internet speed?
A 'good' internet speed depends on your usage. For basic web browsing and email, 5-10 Mbps is sufficient. For HD video streaming, aim for 25+ Mbps. For 4K streaming and gaming, 50+ Mbps is recommended. If multiple people use your connection simultaneously or you work from home with video calls, consider 100+ Mbps for optimal performance.
Why is my speed slower than advertised?
Several factors can affect your actual speed: Wi-Fi interference, distance from router, number of connected devices, network congestion, outdated equipment, and time of day. ISPs also advertise 'up to' speeds, meaning that's the maximum under ideal conditions. Testing with a wired Ethernet connection will give you the most accurate baseline measurement.
What's the difference between download and upload speed?
Download speed measures how quickly data flows from the internet to your device (streaming, browsing, downloading files). Upload speed measures data flowing from your device to the internet (video calls, posting photos, sending emails). Most activities use more download bandwidth, which is why ISPs typically provide faster download than upload speeds.
